The Career Coaching Process
Below is the basic structure. In reality, the stages
tend to overlap.
Free Initial
Consultation
This gives
the opportunity to decide if and how we will work together. You will have
the chance to talk about your situation and outcomes, hear about the
approach and ask any questions. Cost varies according to different factors such as number,
frequency and location of sessions and we will discuss what works
for you.
Stage
1: Assessment
You identify your personality type. (This is not personality testing.) The
Myers Briggs is a powerful tool
that is tremendously helpful for career fit. You can identify the kind of work that
you would love.
Another personality type tool that we
may use is the enneagram.
Understanding yourself clarifies
your strengths and this forms the basis for your career path.
Before coaching, it can
sometimes be confusing because you have good
skills in certain areas even though you don't enjoy them. You will
want to develop a plan based on what you're good at and what you
enjoy. I will also help you identify potential
pitfalls and areas for development.
We identify any inner gremlins that may prevent you from moving forward.
Stage 2: Gathering Other Information
During this stage, there will be a reality check on how things are
now. The focus is on gathering information about your skills and
experience. During this stage, you examine
the basic aspects of work that need to be there in a career for you.
You will also be guided to begin identifying your
deeper values - finding out what is really important to you.
Stage 3: Formulating A Plan
You connect
up the pieces of data from the previous stages and
generate the steps you can take.
Assessing whether any chosen job matches your values, skills, other preferences, needs
and goals.
